7th March 2018
Welcome night is where all of us Malaysians in Adelaide gather together to meet each other. A night of fun and games, meeting new people and also the most important thing especially to Malaysians.. Malaysian food.
After many meetings and discussions among the committee. AUMSA kicked of the semester to gather all Malaysians and also non-Malaysians living in Adelaide with the first event – Welcome Night 1.0.
A night where new students and old students can meet new faces and just have a night of fun and games. A gathering where everyone can feel comfortable and at home. The committee created games, ordered amazing Malaysian food and organized a night to remember!
The night started of with registration and some refreshments and snacks for people to eat while they meet new faces or catch with friends that haven't seen in awhile.
Then it followed by separating people into different groups where they can introduce themselves and make new friends. Each AUMSA committee was placed in each group so that people could also get to know them better!
And then for the best part of the night – the games! There was a total of 4 games that all 6 groups had to compete to win a special prize all the way from Malaysia). Everyone had a great time laughing and bringing out their competitive side. The committees themselves had a good time conducting the games.
There was blindfolded ping pong.
Where participants were blindfolded and had to spin. Then they had to throw a ping pong ball at a pyramid of stacked cups. Participants who were able to knock off the most cups, Wins!
There was a game called 'elephant turn and touch'.
Participants had to spin 10 rounds and touch the fingertip of their partners. Its harder than it actually sounds! People were falling down and laughing while others watched and laughed as well. It was a game that people either loved or hated!
Another one of the games is the sign language game.
The message behind this game was to raise awareness for people with disability. This game required the first participant to memorize a sentence using sign language and he or she had to show it to the next person. The last person had to try their best to show the sign language as similar as possible to the original one. It's a tough one!
The very last game is water pong!
Participants had to take turns to throw their ping pong balls into the opponents' cups. The group who was able to throw their ping pong balls successfully, WINS!
After using all our energy competing in the games, it’s time for the most important thing to all Malaysians! – FOOD!! Hawker Walker a newly open restaurant was generous enough to sponsor us some food! Malaysia’s delicacy, Nasi Lemak accompanied by papadams. The food gave us a little taste of home. Everyone definitely enjoyed the food!!
AUMSA’s Welcome Night was really a success thanks to everyone who came to attend the event. This event really brought a lot of people together. Help new Malaysians in Adelaide feel a little less homesick and definitely give them a home away from home. Returning members was able to catch up with other Malaysians who they haven’t seen in awhile. The AUMSA committees are really happy to have expanded our family this year.
THE AUMSA COMMITTEE OF 2018 WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO CAME THAT NIGHT!
We would also like to thank all out sponsors for making this night a successful one! - Study Adelaide, Education Malaysia Australia, Yosh_Visuals, Hawker Walker and Adelaide University Union.
